Dog fighting is cruel and illegal but many people still train dogs for these events. The protest group that I am focusing on is one that is fictional although the issue is very real. This group protest for the animals’ rights and to eliminate dog fighting. They protest focusing on public awareness. Although this is a very effective method there are things that they are currently doing but could be done better. There are also some things that this group should think about using as apart of their protest. While they had good intentions and some of their methods work well, they should explore new possibilities and work on making some of their protests more effective.

 

Although some of their methods were not as effective as they would have liked them to be they also had some very good methods. The best way that they spread awareness was by public awareness. This includes identifying the signs of a dog fighting arena, socials media, and posters. Identifying the signs of a dog fighting arena is important for being able to tell when you need to contact authorities on suspicion of a dog fight. By informing the public of the telltale signs ensures that they have the information to make an informed decision of weather it is a dog fighting area or not. Social media is a crucial part of public awareness. There are many people that have access to social media and because it is so easy to share information it is one of the fastest ways of sharing information. While knowing how to identify the signs and social media are an important part of public awareness, I think that the most crucial are posters. A poster lets the viewer see the meaning behind it as well as contact information that they can use if they are interested. Posters catch peoples eyes so when they see dog fighting posters it lets them know that this type of thing is happening and lets them know the basic information on the subject. Public awareness is crucial to any protest group because if people don’t understand or know what is happening then how are you going to have the public on your side?

 

There are always things that every protest group can improve on. For this particular group it is a wide variety of subjects including having people with proper credentials, more protests that the public can be involved with, and going door-to-door. Finding people with proper credentials is important for this group in particular. They want to be able to provide vaccinations and medical help to at risk dogs. Without having the proper credentials and a proper area than this part of their goals will not be met. While petitions can also make a difference it is also important that every protest group goes to or hosts enough public protest. This is important because it lets everyone who is passionate about stopping dog fighting to publicly support and advocate for the issue. It also allows the protestors to spread their issue to the passing public. There may be a few people who decide that this is an important issue to them and ask about how they can get involved and help stop dog fighting. Going door-to-door- is important in raising funds as well as spreading your issue. It allows the people you are talking to to not be wary about going up and asking any question they might have. As well, going door-to-door allows groups to accept donations; this is crucial to many groups if other people do not fund them on a regular basis. In any protest groups there are always many areas in which they can improve they just have to take the time to figure out what they are and how they can fix them.

 

For this protest group, there are a few ways in which they can improve. This group can outreach to other groups protesting against dog fighting to try to pool their resources to create a stronger environment against this issue. Although many groups against dog fighting are situated in the United States, they could still contact them to see if they would be willing to work together. This would allow them to create a group cross-country. Another thing that they could do would be to contact officials. This would allow them to see if they would be willing to fund their group, to make larger public announcements about it, or to make more laws regarding dog fighting. They’re always more things you can do you just have to be able to believe in yourself and the group you are protesting for.

 

This protest group should not only focus on widening their horizons they should also think about making some of what they already do more effective. Although dog fighting is bigger in the United States, it is also an issue in Canada. We need to have more groups that are protesting against dog fighting to spread more awareness. This group needs to be able to use a variety of methods to get their point across and to make a difference. There is always something to improve on.
